NFRC Dariush Arasteh Memorial Member of the Year Award Archive
Dariush Arasteh and Tom Culp
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) its first annual Dariush Arasteh Memorial Member-of-the-Year Award to two recipients.
|Dariush Arasteh received the award posthumously. Christian Kohler andCharlie Curcijafrom Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) accepted the award on behalf of Arasteh, also an LBNL employee, who was heralded as an NFRC pioneer and fenestration expert.|
Arasteh was also recognized for his innovative contributions and insight, which proved integral to NFRC’s creation and early development.
|Tom Culp of Birchpoint Consulting received the second award. Culp began his career in the fenestration industry as a research scientist studying low-E coatings. In recent years, he has spent his time as an advocate for energy efficiency and code consulting.|
| · Tom serves as the chair of the Technical Interpretations Policy Committee and the Annual Energy Performance Subcommittee. His roles in both have been exemplary.|
· He has always been motivated to address any and all technical interpretation requests (TIR) in a timely and transparent manner - allowing anyone to attend TIPC conference calls to express their concerns or comments with a particular TIR to publish it as a final interpretation.
· Tom was also instrumental in getting a final document for "NFRC 901: Guidelines to Estimate the Effects of Fenestration on Heating and Cooling Energy Consumption in Single Family Residences" completed, which was considered a difficult task in the beginning.
Member of the Year 2011
Jim Krahn (Marvin Windows) was taken aback when Jeff Baker announced him as NFRC's 2011 Member-of-the-Year during the reception at the Southface Energy Institute in downtown Atlanta.
The evening began with NFRC's CEO, Jim Benney, welcoming the membership to the LEED Platinum-Certified facility and quickly turned to Jeff Baker making the announcement.
"I honestly had no idea this was coming,” a clearly-surprised Krahn told the crowd over their rousing applause.
Krahn added that he's seen many positive changes over the years and has found his involvement with NFRC both personally and professionally rewarding.”
The prestigious NFRC Member-of-the-Year Award recognizes the talents, achievements, and notable contributions that an individual makes to the fenestration industry in support of NFRC's mission.
